Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Waxahachie is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) - Pre-Op / Inpatient (Nights) to join our Day Surgery - Extended Stay Unit. This role supports post-operative surgical patients requiring overnight monitoring and next-day discharge, as well as select ED or pre-/post-surgical patients.
Position Details
- Status: Full-Time
- Shift: Nights - 6:45 PM-7:15 AM
- Schedule: Set schedule - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
- Weekends: None
- Call: None
Department Overview
- Unit: Day Surgery - Extended Stay
- Patient Population: Post-op total joint (knee and hip) patients held overnight for next-day discharge; ED or other surgical patients as needed
- Unit Size: 4 rooms
- Staffing: 2 RNs per shift
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pre- and post-operative nursing care for surgical patients requiring overnight observation
- Monitor and manage post-op total joint patients to support safe next-day discharge
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and BSWH protocols
- Document accurately in Epic EMR
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care while maintaining safety and quality standards
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited RN program
- Current Texas RN license (or compact license)
- BLS certification (ACLS as required by policy)
- Minimum Med-Surg nursing experience required
Epic experience required
Preferred Qualifications
- ICU experience
- Surgical nursing experience (pre-op and/or post-op)
- 5+ years of RN experience

Qualifications
- Accredited program or (2) two years minimum, required for this position.
- A major focus or specialization in Nursing.
- Ideally, some relevant professional experience, though less than a (1) one year would suffice.
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain within (30) thirty days of hire or transfer.
